If you fancy taking in a few museums while on holiday in Rome, then you couldn’t find a better place - it has some of the worlds most beautiful art collections.
These enormous museums are filled with priceless treasures. Suggested museums to visit include the Stanza di Raffaello, The Pinacoteca, the Gallerie delle Carte Geografiche (Map Gallery) and, of course, the Sistine Chapel.
To make your way around the Vatican’s museums a little bit easier, you can pick out what museums you’d like to visit and then choose your route. You might like to follow one of four colour coded itineraries that you can acquire from the museum.
Each itinerary starts at the Quattro Cancelli area and finishes at the Sistine Chapel. You can walk straight to the Sistine Chapel but you can’t back track once you get there, therefore if you want to see other collections make sure to do so first.
The museums are well equipped with several facilities for the disabled, like lifts and specially seated toilets. The Vatican Museums also opened a new large entrance in 2000. Services at the entrance include currency exchange, first aid station, cloakroom, museum shop, security check, itineraries and guided tours, nursery and visitor information
