Piazza della Republica is really a place to admire while passing rather than a place to hang around in. Built in 1901, it was originally called Piazza Esedra.
The Fontana delle Naiadi fountain dominates the Piazza. This sits in the center of the square. It was designed by Mario Rutelli and features the shape of the fisherman Glauco wrestling with a fish. It is surrounded by four water nymphs that protect rivers, lakes and the oceans.
The church of Santa Maria degli Angeli is the church that can be found on one side of the square while the other side of the square is surrounded by buildings with different architectural designs.
