Rome – where to eat, drink & shop:
Eating out
The best places for eating in Rome are San Lorenzo (east of Termini) and Testaccio (south of the city centre), which are very popular with the locals. Also, Trastevere offers traditional style restaurants tucked away in the squares where you can sit outside and eat.
Breakfast is not a big meal here; locals just have a cup of coffee and a croissant while continental breakfasts are served in most hotels. Dinners are served late into the night so you can even order a meal as late as 11pm in some restaurants. Italy is noted for good pasta and pizza’s, with some restaurants serving nothing but pizza at dinnertime.
Nightlife
The local people do not drink a lot, so the nightlife scene isn’t very important here. One of the best ways to enjoy the night is to sit outside at a piazza and savour the atmosphere with music to entertain you as you watch the sun set. However, if you do want to hit the pubs, then head to the historic city centre where the bars are busy with students and travellers alike. We recommend a visit to the Colosseum at night, which is all lit up and looks dramatic.
Shopping
For shopping lovers, you can indulge in some high street fashion to bargains on the market stalls. The most famous streets for fashion in the city are Via Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina.
Via Condotti is one of the most elegant shopping streets with designers like Bulgari, Hermes and Cartier. For outlet shopping, go to Castel Romano outlet store where you’ll find designer brands at discount prices.
Finally, if your looking for a bargain, then visit one of three flea markets in the city; Porta Portese, Mercato delle Stampe and Via Sannio.
